An extremely talented, Group 1-winning son of Champion Sire Fastnet Rock, Foxwedge, the Champion Second Season Sire of his year, relocated to Victoria in 2019 and his progeny have continued to go from strength from strength. On arrival in Victoria he had 11 stakes winners and now that tally sits at 26.
As a $925,000 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale graduate, with both the looks and pedigree, Foxwedge was the third highest priced colt purchased from the sale.
Foxwedge rose to prominence as a two-year-old, starting as a leading chance in the Golden Slipper on the back of a win in the Lonhro Plate and placing in the Todman Stakes.
As a three-year-old, Foxwedge went from strength to strength, claiming the San Domenico Stakes and Roman Consul Stakes in the spring of 2011, before placing second to champion racehorse Sepoy in the Coolmore Stud Stakes, beaten in fighting photo finish.
Foxwedge went on as an autumn three-year-old to finish less than four-lengths behind legendary sprinter Black Caviar in the Group 1 Lightning Stakes, before placing in a Newmarket Handicap and defeating the likes of champion sprinters Hay List and Buffering in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes.
A breeder’s favourite at Woodside, Foxwedge is the sire of 26 individual stakes winners and five Group 1 winners, including Queen Of The Turf winner Foxplay, Railway Stakes winner Volpe Veloce and Australian Guineas winner Lunar Fox.
