Written Tycoon retains his Champion Victorian Stallion Crown

Written Tycoon resembles a fine wine as he continues to improve year after year. Held in the highest regards amongst the most astute thoroughbred judges, by the finest sommeliers, he would be comparable to a grange.

Having taken out Champion First Season Sire of Australia in 2010/11 when he was just starting his incredible career in the breeding shed, he is now recognised for the second season in a row with the title of Champion Victorian Stallion as Victoria’s most prolific producer of talented top quality gallopers.

Claiming the deserved title of Champion Two-Year-Old Sire in Australia in 2015/16, Written Tycoon produced three individual Group One gallopers including Golden Slipper winner Capitalist, NZ Sires Produce two-year-old Luna Rossa, and tough Doomben 10,000 sprinter Music Magnate, and this season he added Group 1 Tatts Tiara winner Tycoon Tara to his record.

A son of Last Tycoon’s (Try My Best) Iglesia and out of a Kenmare (Kalamoun) mare, an element of Written Tycoon's success must be credited to providing breeders with an outcross that suits the majority of pedigrees. With the Australian broodmare band being saturated with Danehill blood, he has achieved success from a diverse range of dam lines, not being restricted to suiting a particular nick.

In his early stud career Written Tycoon was well supported with mare numbers but not quality, but by continually upgrading his mares, and by producing outstanding types with each crop of foals, he started to gain admirable attention.

Written Tycoon is physically an exceptional, well-conformed individual with the prepotency to stamp his foals in the image of himself. Proving to be highly sort after by the educated buying bench at all major sales, and with the superior mares he now has the opportunity to cover, it would suggest many exciting years ahead.

Achieving the highest Victorian stallion at each sale, his January Magic Millions yearlings averaged $307,500, over 22 times his service fee. At Inglis Premier, his $500,000 yearling was purchased by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, with an average of $183,500 and at Inglis Easter, he smashed records with his $1 million yearling becoming the first for a current sire standing in Victoria to achieve this figure.  Purchased by James Harron Bloodstock, the outstanding Brilliant Bisc colt was conceived from his 2014 fee of $13,750. With his three yearlings averaging $610,000, he returned a staggering 44.8 times his service fee.

These exceptional sales results give mare owners the confidence that they have made the right choice financially to breed with Written Tycoon to achieve surefire success in the sales ring and on the racetrack.

With tremendous fertility and libido, Written Tycoon in recent seasons has covered large books of some of the best pedigreed and performed young mares in the country, reversing the trend and triggering commercial breeders in the Hunter Valley to send mares south.

With Woodside Park Stud being passionately Victorian owned, there is no chance of Written Tycoon ever heading north, as they are proud to offer a proven stallion of his high quality locally to encourage breeders to support and help grow the Victorian breeding industry.

Written Tycoon has had more multi-millionaire sons retire to stud in the past two seasons than any other sire. Joining Capitalist and Winning Rupert, Woodside Park Stud is proud to stand the stunning Rich Enuff along side his father.

Being the highest-rated son of Written Tycoon, Rich Enuff’s first foals are eagerly anticipated to arrive soon, and being a record-breaker on the track, he was very well supported by breeders and by some of Woodside’s best mares last season.

Written Tycoon has certainly earned the recognition and fame he now receives from the Australian and Victorian breeding industry. Now a mature 15 years young, he is at the top of his game by earning his Champion Victorian Sire crown again for the 2016/17 season.

From 443 progeny to race he claims 324 winners, a phenomenal 73.0% winners to runners and with earnings now of over $38 million including 19 stakes winners, Written Tycoon can conclusively demand his current 2017 fee of $88,000.
